"Take that first step. It might be scary, but on the other side of that fear is everything you've ever wanted."
Community Service Worker with Addictions Worker Specialty Diploma ProgramFrom Student to Mentor: Cavelle’s Inspiring Journey
Cavelle Bailey had always felt a calling to help others, but she wasn’t sure how to turn that passion into a career. That all changed when she stepped through the doors of Academy of Learning Career College.
“I was nervous at first,” Cavelle admitted with a smile. “But from day one, I knew I was in the right place.”
Enrolling in the Community Service Worker with Addictions Worker Specialty Diploma program, Cavelle threw herself into her studies. Her hard work paid off when she graduated with Honours and All Subjects Distinction.
But Cavelle’s journey was just beginning. With her diploma in hand, she set her sights on becoming an Outreach Worker. When she learned the position she wanted had closed, Cavelle didn’t let that stop her.
“I thought, what’s the worst that could happen? They already said no,” she laughs. Her persistence paid off when the Canadian Association of Social Workers placed her in a Nova Scotia high school as an Outreach Worker.
Now, Cavelle spends her days supporting high school students, drawing on the skills she honed during her time at AOLCC.
“Every day, I get to be the person I needed when I was younger,” she shared. “It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.”
Reflecting on her journey, Cavelle’s voice softened. “There were times I doubted myself, but I kept pushing forward. If I can do it, anyone can.”
Her advice for others dreaming of a new career? “Take that first step. It might be scary, but on the other side of that fear is everything you’ve ever wanted.”
Cavelle’s story isn’t just about personal success – it’s about the ripple effect of one person’s determination to make a difference. As she continues to support and inspire the students she works with,
Cavelle is living proof that it’s never too late to pursue your passion and create positive change in the world.
